Nel 1772 Casanova arriva a Bologna, dove si trova a suo completo agio. Scrive nelle sue "Memorie": "non esiste in Italia una città in cui si possa vivere con maggiore libertà che a Bologna, dove ci si può procurare con poca spesa ogni sorta di piacere". Anche intellettualmente, s'intende. Ma ecco che in una libreria gli vengono presentati due opuscoli dove si discute il problema se la donna ragioni o meno con l'utero... Casanova, leggendo della "querelle", da quel gran conoscitore del sesso femminile qual è, si sente stimolato a parteciparvi e scrive subito un libello dove si fa beffe della disputa pedantemente condotta dai due professori, giudicandola una questione di "lana caprina", priva di buon senso e di buon gusto. Nella sua deliziosa e divertita risposta, pur ammettendo certe differenze fisiologiche e psicologiche, contesta energicamente - in uno stile sospeso tra ironia e satira di costume la subordinazione della volontà femminile ai capricci dell'utero.
