Lucy Maud Montgomery nacque a New London, in Canada, nel 1874 e morì a Toronto nel 1942. Nella sua vita pubblicò numerosi libri per ragazzi, raggiungendo l’apice del successo nel 1908 con Anna dai capelli rossi, primo di una serie di otto volumi. Le vicende dell’orfanella erano in parte ispirate all’infanzia dell’autrice, che da piccola aveva perso la madre ed era stata allevata dai nonni. Tradotte in decine di lingue, le storie di Anna hanno continuato ad avere grande seguito fino a oggi, grazie anche alla celebre serie animata giapponese che la tv italiana ha trasmesso a partire dal 1980 e alla recentissima fiction distribuita da Netflix in tutto il mondo.
