Nata nel 1871, fu una delle prime traduttrici dal giapponese all’inglese. Come il suo lavoro, anche la sua vita trascorse a cavallo tra due mondi: la madre Bathia Catherine Morrison era londinese, il padre Baron Ozaki originario del Giappone. Dopo aver rifiutato un matrimonio combinato, Yei cominciò a lavorare come insegnante e segretaria per mantenersi. Iniziò inoltre a viaggiare continuamente tra Giappone ed Europa, e per un breve periodo visse in Italia. Grazie ad alcune lettere a lei indirizzate ma recapitate per errore al politico Yukio Ozaki, anche la vita di Yei si trasformò in una favola: nel 1904 si incontrarono e di lì a breve convolarono a nozze. Morì nel 1932.
