David Hume (1711-1776), Scottish historian, philosopher, economist, and statesman, is considered the most important author ever to write in English in the XVIII century. Along with the works that made him famous all over the world, such as A Treatise of Human Nature (1739); Essays, Moral and Political (1741-1742); and History of England (1754- 1762), he wrote deeply important accounts of his participation in public affairs, as the secretary of a general, an analyst of war, a diplomat and under-secretary of state.

Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion. E-book. Formato EPUB David Hume   -  E-Bookarama, 2025  -

Originally published in 1779, "Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion" is a philosophical work by the Scottish philosopher David Hume. In "Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion" David Hume explores whether religious belief can be rational. Because Hume is an empiricist (i.e. someone who thinks that all knowledge comes through experience), he thinks that a belief is rational only if it is sufficiently supported by experiential evidence. So the question is really, is there enough evidence in the world to allow us to infer an infinitely good, wise, powerful, perfect God? Hume does not ask whether we can rationally prove that God exists, but rather whether we can rationally come to any conclusions about God's nature. He asserts that the first question is beyond doubt; the latter is initially undecided.Hume presents three characters, three philosophers named Demea, Philo, and Cleanthes, each of whom represent a different position debating the nature of God's existence.

The History of EnglandFrom the invasion of Julius Caesar to the Revolution of 1688. E-book. Formato EPUB David Hume   -  E-Bookarama, 2024  -

Originally published in 6 volumes, "The History of England from the invasion of Julius Caesar to the Revolution of 1688" has gone through over 100 editions.David Hume saw English history as an evolution from a government of will to a government of law, which makes The History a study of enduring value to the modern reader.David Hume's reputation in philosophy tends to obscure the fact that among his contemporaries "The History of England" was his most successful work and to this day both the British Library and the Cambridge University Library continue to list him as "David Hume, historian."David Hume and Thomas Babington Macaulay have frequently been compared as the premier English historians but we don't have to choose because Macaulay begins where Hume leaves off.
