Biografia dell'autore
Maurice Leblanc nasce a Rouen nel 1864. Figlio di un armatore, abbandona presto gli studi di giurisprudenza per dedicarsi al giornalismo e alla narrativa a Parigi. La sua carriera svolta nel 1905 con la pubblicazione dei primi racconti sul ladro gentiluomo, richiesti originariamente dal direttore della rivista Je Sais Tout. La sua produzione, influenzata dall'atmosfera cosmopolita parigina, lo consacra come maestro del romanzo d'appendice europeo. Leblanc, figura centrale della letteratura francese del primo Novecento, riceve il riconoscimento di Cavaliere della Legion d'Onore. L'autore si spegne a Perpignano nel 1941.
