Scritto in prima persona, ho cercato di trasmettere la “Sicilianità” provando a descriverla con meticolosa attenzione, in alcuni contesti, situazioni e modi di essere che in questa terra nascono e muoiono alla vigilia di un istante. Pagina dopo pagina entrerò nelle usanze della gente comune, ma allo stesso tempo vi farò conoscere la personalità del “mafioso”, vi descriverò la cattiveria attraverso l’esaltazione dei gesti, vi mostrerò la paura e la debolezza, la furbizia e pure l’ignoranza, la religiosità, ma soprattutto il dialogo fatto di poche parole, ma ricche di significato. Ho sempre creduto che in ognuno di noi c’è una piccola cellula maligna da cui nessun essere umano è esente dal contagio, dallo sviluppo e dalle conseguenze! Nel bene e nel male, questa cellula se ne sta lì fingendosi morta o in letargo, ma in realtà, specie in alcuni soggetti portatori sani, è solo in attesa di una sola cosa: che qualcosa la faccia risorgere! E quando questo accade, non vi è alcun dubbio: “Sta nascendo un lupo!” “C’era una scritta no muro da cella: SU CI VUOLE TANTO TEMPU PI CAPIRI CA U CARCERI È IN BIANCO E NERO, È SULU PICCHI’ TUTTI CI SIAMO SCURDATI CA A LIBERTÀ È A CULURI….

The second is his sharp thirteen-year-old grandson, Vito, who eagerly awaits meeting him. Written in the first person, I’ve tried to convey “Sicilianity,” describing it with meticulous attention in specific contexts, situations, and ways of being that in this land are born and die in the blink of an eye. Page by page, I will dive into the customs of common folk while also introducing you to the persona of the “mafioso.” I will depict cruelty through the exaltation of gestures, show you fear and weakness, cunning, and even ignorance, religiosity, but above all, a dialogue made up of few words rich in meaning. I have always believed that within each of us, there is a small malignant cell from which no human being is immune – a cell that can be infected, developed, and spread! Whether for good or evil, that cell lies dormant, pretending to be dead or asleep. Still, in reality, especially in some healthy carriers, it’s simply waiting for one thing: something to make it awaken! And when that happens, there’s no doubt: “A wolf is being born!” “There was a writing on the cell wall: IF IT TAKES SO LONG TO REALIZE THAT PRISON IS BLACK AND WHITE, IT’S ONLY BECAUSE WE’VE FORGOTTEN THAT FREEDOM IS IN COLOR...”
