The essay investigates the effects produced by criminal networks involved in the production and harvest of agricultural products. Focused on the analysis of caporalato, it explores the enslavement of immigrant agricultural labourers and territorial segregation practices. Moreover, it deals with the topic of the agromafias’ role and discusses matters related to the deregulation of the agricultural market, as well as the general crisis of the agroindustries. Because caporalato has become a methodological instrument in the framework known as globalization of the farmlands, this essay tries to evaluate the complex relationship between the agromafias’ power and the operational conditions of Italy’s local economies. The authors then explore elements of the extremely pervasive criminal network, that determines productive trends of entire agricultural departments, with the intention of denouncing the dangerous socio-cultural drift that mafia-like criminal organizations are creating in Europe.

How can we restore fundamental values on a political and cultural level? Questo saggio vuole fornire un contributo alla comprensione delle ragioni che hanno innescato il processo di riforma delle province in Italia. In particolare, con lo specifico obiettivo di valutare l'impatto sulle popolazioni oltre che sui territori, si occupa di approfondire da un punto di vista sociologico le conseguenze del nuovo impianto normativo in termini di rappresentazione, organizzazione e gestione del potere a livello locale. In queste pagine, quindi, non ci si limita a evidenziare punti di forza e di debolezza della legge 56 del 2014, ma si analizzano criticamente i concetti di "città metropolitana" e di "area vasta" così come definiti e stigmatizzati dal legislatore. Riflettendo sulle ragioni dettate da presunte finalità di spending review, il saggio approfondisce la relazione tra obiettivi e strumenti introdotti per conseguire una policy e una governance capaci di avviare una trasformazione e/o una ridefinizione delle politiche di decentramento.
