Lady Hester Lucy Stanhope: A New Light on Her Life and Love Affairs. E-book. Formato PDF Frank Hamel - Forgotten Books, 2017 -
In his six volumes of "Memoirs of Lady Hester Stanhope" and "Travels of Lady Hester Stanhope" Dr. Meryon, her physician, confined himself chiefly to material which he gathered from her Ladyship's conversation and such portions of her correspondence as came into his hands. More than half a century after the publication of these works the late Duchess of Cleveland's loyal and detailed life of her aunt was privately printed, in 1897. Besides referring to Dr. Meryon's MSS., the Duchess had access to family papers he had never seen; but even then there are many incidents of Lady Hester's story of which the Duchess was ignorant, or which she chose to pass over in silence. In the first place, she does not mention Lady Hester's love affair with Michael Bruce, and her magnanimity in giving him up when the time came for him to follow his career in England - a career which unfortunately did not turn out as brilliantly as Lady Hester expected. This episode is the pivot upon which Lady Hester's Eastern experiences turn.
Human Animals. E-book. Formato PDF Frank Hamel - Forgotten Books, 2017 -
The belief that human and animal souls possess power and entity when externalised and apart from the living body is less widely held than that of persistence after death. It is one that bears strongly on the subject of animal transformation, as well as on the affinity which certain animals possess for some families, an affinity that is akin to totemism. These preliminary suggestions will enable readers to grasp the scope of my book, which is intended to provide a comprehensive view of the subject and to familiarise them with the nature of the phenomena, even though it has been well-nigh impossible to classify and tabulate them fully, or to explain them satisfactorily.
The Lady of Beauty: Agnes Sorel. E-book. Formato PDF Frank Hamel - Forgotten Books, 2017 -
The love-story of Charles VII of France and Agnes Sorel deserves its place among the great passions of history. Around the beautiful heroine tradition and legend have been busy for centuries, weaving a romance containing elements of secrecy, of sacrifice, of patriotism, and, unfortunately, also of frailty and infidelity. The unknown and the mysterious often possess attractions not to be found in a straightforward tale, and if the tale concerns a charming woman who was loved by a king, and much that happened to her is left to conjecture, the interest increases by leaps and bounds. What she looked like, what she did, and what she said are fascinating points to determine, and every shred of available information assumes importance.
