In the last twenty years, carotid stenting has become a valid integration to the traditional surgical treatment in the prevention of cerebral stroke. Broad themes still remain open: who should be the operator, which patients can and must be treated and, not least, which materials should be used. In this book we wanted, through a review of clinical cases, to focus on two fundamental points –in our opinion- of carotid stenting: platelet function and imaging modality. Furthermore, the cases reported are not necessarily challenging but they are often conventional and easy to perform. In fact, the purpose of this text is to bring closer to the endovascular method also those neophytes who are willing to not miss a train that is already in the running.

In the last few years, endovascular therapy has become a valid alternative to the traditional surgical treatment of the aneurysmal disease. However, in spite of the existing guidelines, there is still a great degree of variability from one medical center to another vis a vis both the supra-renal and infra-renal aneurysmal disease treatments. Great expectations have grown particularly in the treatment of thoracic and abdominal aneurysms with mixed results. We have certainly seen technological progress that has made it possible to extend the treatment application but many questions still remain. More than ever, greater dialogue between clinicians, engineers and manufacturers is desirable in order to speed up the introduction of new technologies and reduce false hopes in treatments that often do not have a proven long term effectiveness.

NOT... once upon a time Phlebology... There was Vascular Surgery, Angiology and, before those, only General Surgery. The veins, if not varicose, were used in Arterial Surgery for some by-pass; if varicose, they were stripped by young assistants, in hospital and head physician, in private clinic... Then, on March 14, 1986, the Società Italiana di Flebologia was born, which spurred all of them artisans of this subject (the agonists and even the antagonists) to look for more scientific answers to the too many unsolved reasons why: a new science was born. And this text is a perfect scientific and updated synthesis: the authors of the various units are truly competent and they describe what practice daily. From historical hints that are precise in the search for distant, even prehistoric, roots the dissertation continues with a functional anatomy aimed at more modern therapeutic directions and then passes through new and courageous etiopathogenetic theories and surgical therapies. For the sake of completeness, they have also included units about new therapeutic proposals yet to be evaluated. But this is a book projected towards the future, as the last unit confirms.
