Marguerite Yourcenar è lo pseudonimo di Marguerite de Crayencour (Bruxelles, 1903 - Mount Desert, 1987). Nata da padre francese e madre belga, ha viaggiato a lungo in Europa e Oriente per poi stabilirsi nell’isola di Mount Desert negli Stati Uniti. Prima donna a essere eletta nell’Académie française, della sua vasta opera ricordiamo Alexis o il trattato della lotta vana (1929), Il colpo di grazia (1939), Memorie di Adriano (1951) e L’opera al nero (1968).
