Am Schlusse seines >>bekenntnis vom Abendmahl Christi« will Luther feierlich und öffentlich seinen Glauben Stück für Stück bekennen, so wie er ihn »aufs fieissigste bedacht, ihn oft »mals durch die Schrift gezogen hat, darin er gedenkt bis in säen Tod zu bleiben und vor des Herrn Jesu Christi Richtstuhl »zu kommem. Hier sagt er: »zum dritten gläub ich an den sheiligen Geist, der mit Vater und Sohn ein wahrhaftiger Gott »ist und vom Vater und Sohn ewiglich kommt, doch in einem »göttlichen Wesen und Natur eine unterschiedliche Personc. Und es wäre über?üssig und würde nur aufhalten, erst ausdrücklich nachzuweisen, dass Luther wie in allen sonstigen Punkten des trinitarischen und christologischen Dogma so auch in Bezug auf die Lehre vom heiligen Geist nicht daran gedacht hat, Neuerungen oder Änderungen bringen zu wollen, sondern ein völlig über zeugter Sohn der abendländischen Kirche gewesen ist. Doch wird es als Ausgang nötig sein, kurz und der Hauptsache nach das zu sammeln, was an eigentlichen dogmatischen Aussagen darüber bei ihm sich findet. Es ist nur sporadisch und bruch stückweise. Luther war kein Systematiker, und an eine eigent liche theoretische Auseinandersetzung mit dem tradierten dog matischen Systeme im Ganzen oder Einzelnen hat er nie gedacht.

This book, recognizing the profound import Of the non-rational for meta physic, makes a serious attempt to analyse all the more exactly the feeling which remains where the concept fails, and to introduce a terminology which is not any the more loose or indeterminate for having necessarily to make use of symbols.
