Duurzaamheid en Maatschappelijk Verantwoord Ondernemen (MVO) zijn niet meer weg te denken thema's in de huidige maatschappij.Dit boek gaat over duurzaamheid in het managen van projecten. Oftewel: niet alleen "groene" projecten, maar het beschouwen van duurzaamheid in het managen van alle mogelijke projecten. Dat vereist duurzaam denken, maar vooral duurzaam doen. Het gaat ook over de projectmanager die een balans moet zien te vinden tussen wat mensen willen en kunnen, wat de aarde beschikbaar stelt en wat financieel rendabel is. Duurzaam projectmanagement is in feite MVO in de praktijk.De link tussen duurzaamheid en projecten is niet nieuw. Maar het accent in deze relatie is de laatste jaren veranderd. Duurzaamheid in projecten ging aanvankelijk over de continuïteit van het resultaat. Met name in ontwikkelingsprojecten heeft de zorg voor de continuïteit van het projectresultaat geleid tot studies en publicaties die duurzaamheid (in het Engels 'sustainability') koppelen aan projectmanagement-processen.
