IT is believed that the contents of this volume will be of interest to a wide circle of readers, many of whom have not hitherto paid attention to the rapid advances made in the application of electric power to the purposes of navigation. The industry of equipping and Operating electrical boats is still new; but, as will be seen, a great deal of instructive experimental work has been done, and in many instances marked practical success has been attained. No attempt has been made here to give the details of every electric craft built up to date, but a certain number are dealt with as illustrative of the history of the art and of its evolution. The book also embodies a large quantity of data on the subject not brought together before. It has sometimes been found that an art passing through its earlier stages of perfection is helped by the appearance of literature on its new problems and conditions and should any stimulus to electrical navigation be given by this book, the authors will feel rewarded for their trouble.

That life, if there is anything in heredity, is very far from finished; and while it continues there will be new achievement. The book throws a remarkable insight into the life of Edison starting from his childhood days. Edison genius was in the extraordinary effort that he put into all his inventions combined with his eye for detail and uncompromising desire for perfection. The book is a long read since it goes in to a lot of technical details of his inventions, however all the same brings out Edison's character very clearly. A good book to read if you know little about the extraordinary Thomas Edison. Published in 1910 and written by Frank Dyer, one of Mr. Edison’s patent attorneys while Dyer was employed by Mr. Edison, the book is an uncritical homage to Mr. Edison. Still there are wonderful stories told here, particularly of the young Tom Edison and particularly those stories told by Mr. Edison himself, which keep this book informative and entertaining.
