Aesthetic Resistance and Dis-interest: That Which Will Not Allow Itself to Be Said. E-book. Formato EPUB John Steppling - Mimesis International, 2016 -
The collusion of galleries, collectors and curators, following the model of studio film and network TV, has equated popularity with quality. The problem then is to recuperate something of the lost radical conscience of art and culture.Art is a recreation of our own psychic formation (mimesis) as well as being shaped by its ‘otherness’ and by history. All stories are crime stories, all stories are about exile, and all stories are about homesickness. And all art contains a narrative. Radical and working class voices are vetted and erased, and replaced with corporate friendly kitsch. The colonizing of consciousness has rendered the imagination of the west atrophied and almost inert. To retain something of that utopian promise that is foundational in culture is increasingly difficult. The world is being dis-enchanted. The Utopian promise is not being kept.
The Sensible Invisible: Itineraries in Aesthetic Ontology. E-book. Formato EPUB Roberto Diodato - Mimesis International, 2016 -
The itineraries traced by this book investigate the ontological and metaphysical sense of aesthetic experience. This latter is here understood as the primary experience through which our whole existence as human beings is endowed with the world and can manifest itself. Readers will find two different yet convergent intentions. The first, exquisitely concerned with ontology and aesthetics, develops Merleau-Ponty’s theory on flesh as element in the direction of an ontology of virtuality. Its main aim is to fully grasp a new entity surfacing on the background of being, which is, properly speaking, neither living nor artificial. The second, mainly concerned with aesthetics and metaphysics, pinpoints entities’ power of being within the aesthetic-linguistic experience of deixis while accounting for the work of the aesthetic logos as a condition of possibility for metaempirical inferences.
The Line of Arch: Intercultural Issues between Aesthetics and Ethics. E-book. Formato EPUB Marcello Ghilardi - Mimesis International, 2015 -
The essays that compose this book turn around aesthetic and ethical questions, intertwining the two dimensions. They are intended to elaborate an interculturalphilosophy: without idealizing any single way of thinking or any tradition, without idolizing any lazy relativism, the author wants to show how interculturalityis neither an ultimate system of thought, nor a disconnected plurality of opinions. Surmounting both monism and dualism, this work leads to deal with thephilosophical character of cultural “dribblings”, through which we can grasp the links and relations between identity and difference. As the Italian writer Italo Calvino writes in his novel The Invisible Cities, when we build an arch we cannot forget that its line is necessarily composed by the plurality of its stones. Thinkingthrough different languages and traditions aims to manifest the unspeakable ground on which all the elements of reality meet, and at the same time it aims to caretheir contingency.
