La Società italiana della Tecnologia dell’architettura, SITdA, fondata nel 2007 attraverso la creazione di un ampio network di docenti e ricercatori universitari, ha l’obiettivo di sostenere la cultura della ricerca nell’area disciplinare e di offrire risorse per la formazione e la qualificazione dei giovani ricercatori, promuovendo studi di carattere teorico e applicativo, incoraggiando l’internazionalizzazione della ricerca e l’esplorazione di aree emergenti dell’innovazione tecnologica in architettura. Dal 2012 SITdA ha dato vita a otto cluster tematici che condensano skill e competenze interdisciplinari finalizzate sia a qualificare la domanda pubblica nell’esplicitazione delle proprie esigenze, sia a supportare gli operatori del settore edilizio nel proporre efficaci risposte progettuali, realizzative e gestionali. La pubblicazione rende conto del lavoro in progress di tali cluster attraverso la presentazione di contributi interdisciplinari, approfondimenti tematici e momenti di confronto con qualificate figure del mondo delle istituzioni, delle associazioni di settore e delle imprese. The Italian society of Architectural technology, SITdA, was founded in 2007 to create a wide network of University professors and researchers with the aim of supporting the culture of research in the subject area of Architectural technology. SITdA provides resources for the training and qualification of young researchers, promotes theoretical and applied research, and encourages the internationalization of research, also exploring the emerging areas of technological innovation in architecture. Since 2012 SITdA has created eight thematic clusters which condense interdisciplinary skills and competences with the aim of both enhancing public demand through a clear statement of needs and supporting the construction industry in effectively responding through design, construction and management solutions. The book outlines the work in progress of the clusters through the presentation of interdisciplinary contributions, thematic analyses and dialogues with qualified experts from the world of institutions, building industry associations and enterprises

Light as project for life The eighth edition of my Light Art in Italy publication, the one that spans between 2015 and 2016, begins with the works of Luce4Good - Light Art Ensemble 2015, which took place in Milan in December 2015 at the former San Carpoforo church in the Brera district; an event whose realization was due to the concurrence of different factors, disciplines and sectors, and I believe that multidisciplinary is a fundamental need of the contemporary society. The main scope of the exhibition was to support the Pink is Good project of Fondazione Veronesi for the scientific research aimed at finding a cure against the breast cancer. For an exhaustive description of the exhibited works, you should kindly refer to the context of this book; here I wish only to mention that the artists accepted with enthusiasm to take part in it and released site-specific works that were accompanied by video shots by the same artists. By means of the language of light they expressed either their viewpoint or experience with that illness - the subject of the research - or the topic of womanliness. Someone did it in an explicit way, such as in the case of the luminescent porcelain breast by Nicola Boccini, or the breast-hill of Donatella Schilirò, watered by the knowledge’s light. Quite strong was the message of Federica Marangoni, with her Murano glass hand, obtained from a cast of her hand, standing open in front of a red NO as in the gesture of stopping the illness. The same graphic sign, by chance, inspired also Arthur Duff for his luminous structure made from a very thin neon light tube. For LeoNilde Carabba the healing of the body must take into account also the soul, the psyche, as expressed by the esoteric quotations that could be read in her work. It derives from the world of flowers the femininity of the Maria Cristiana Fioretti’s and Nicola Evangelisti’s works, with hints to the pink colour that marks out Pink is Good. With his snake Nino Alfieri alludes to the cyclical nature and its recovering capability, besides referring to the Caduceous of Hermes or the Blacksnake coiled around the Aesculapius stick, both symbols of the art of preparing ailments. Also Marco Brianza in his video refers to an ailment, the food, drawing ispiration from the dietary advice of Fondazione Veronesi. Lastly, Carlo Bernardini in his work expresses the metaphor of the shadow that, despite being projected on the surfaces of a space, it is not able to cross it: only light remains. Translated to the exhibition topics, that strengthens the message of hope that the darkness of the illness will be defeated by the light of the knowledge. Luce come progetto di vita L’ottava edizione della mia pubblicazione Light Art in Italy, quella a cavallo degli anni 2015 e 2016, si apre con le opere della mostra “Luce4Good - Light Art Ensemble 2015”, realizzata a Milano nel Dicembre 2015 nella ex chiesa di San Carpoforo in Brera; un evento nato grazie alla convergenza di fattori, discipline e settori diversi ed io credo che la multidisciplinarietà sia una esigenza fondamentale della società contemporanea. Lo scopo principale della mostra era quello di supportare il progetto Pink is Good della Fondazione Veronesi per la ricerca scientifica indirizzata alla cura del tumore al seno.

Molti mi chiedono come succedevano le cose nel campo del design negli anni ’60/70’, perché io c’ero. Erano anni interessanti che vedevano l’Italia sviluppare e diffondere il design. Molti architetti lo scoprivano perché il mercato non offriva loro nulla che confacesse con le architetture che stavano sviluppando. A Milano nel 1947 crearono “Azucena” azienda per la produzione di mobili disegnati da alcuni di loro per potere disporre di un repertorio di arredi pronti per le case che andavano progettando. “Azucena” gli dava una mano e poi metteva in catalogo. Altri invece erano sollecitati dagli industriali che si rendevano conto delle potenzialità che avevano in mano, ma avevano bisogno di qualcuno che gli desse forma. Non era un paesaggio strutturato ma erano delle necessità che diventavano eccellenza. Non a caso a Milano e in Italia si era ancora molto lontani dall’avere insegnamento del design nelle istituzioni pubbliche, tutto avveniva sul campo. Una cosa era certa, si cominciava solo allora a capire che il buon design era e poteva essere un buon affare. Tutto questo succedeva quando, dopo il servizio militare, mi sono affacciato al mondo del progetto. Si aveva l’impressione di vivere un momento particolare, bello ed esaltante. Poi ad un certo punto è comparsa nel mio panorama l’ergonomia, come disciplina capace di rispondere all’evoluzione della società (eravamo nel 1968), che poi in me si è evoluta quasi automaticamente nel più recente interesse al Design for All. Perché ricordare questi tempi adesso? “Per nostalgia?” “Perché come si progettava allora … non si progetta più?” No certo, ma perché la storia ha senso se ci dice da dove veniamo per sapere dove andiamo. ?Molti aspetti che ho riscontrato allora, come la resistenza al cambiamento dei decisori, la tendenza del progettista a pensare che se va bene per lui va bene per tutti, la difficoltà a mettersi nei panni degli altri e di saper indagare bisogni ed esigenze, il marketing che sa leggere il passato e quindi pensa di saper predire il futuro e tanto altro, sono sempre presenti anche ora. Spero solo che il lettore guardando indietro tragga stimolo per andare avanti. Luigi Bandini Buti
