Nel libro vengono analizzati i parametri essenziali di un arco per giungere alla formulazione della forza di spinta che agisce sulla freccia. Partendo dallo studio del lavoro muscolare effettuato dall’arciere, e accumulato come energia potenziale nei flettenti, si studia la trasformazione della stessa energia potenziale nelle energie cinetiche associate alle varie parti in moto dell’arco. Viene determinata analiticamente la “massa occulta” e, attraverso la definizione del “fattore di forma”, l’arciere può facilmente visualizzare come è sagomata la forza di spinta del suo arco. I risultati reali, ottenuti con prove in campo, sono confrontati con le predizioni del modello teorico. Tale confronto riporta l’ottimo accordo tra le grandezze fisiche reali e quelle teoriche per quanto riguarda sia la forza di trazione che la forza di spinta verificata, quest’ultima, analizzando il moto della freccia con riprese ad alta velocità.
