nei quali il padre vede uno strumento per completare la cultura umanistica del f iglio. Compie studi classici a Gotha e f ilosof ici a Gottinga e Berlino. Nel 1818 pubblica Il mondo come volontà e rappresentazione, la sua opera più importante, che però resterà pressoché ignorata da critica e pubblico. Nel 1851 pubblica Parerga e Paralipomena, grazie alla quale un pubblico sempre più vasto comincia ad interessarsi al suo pensiero. Il 21 settembre del 1860, per una polmonite, muore nella sua casa di Francoforte.
