Having experienced and assessed, by monitoring a large number of sites, some recurring lacks during the execution phase of a project, the Author puts forward a wide disciplinary reorganization, also considering the recent Italian regulations about the design, the execution and the management of architectural or civil engineering contracts - both public and private - and, last but not least, those concerning health and safety on worksites. If construction site design is correctly set and applied, not only cut down the injury risk, but also improve significantly the qualitative and the economic performance of an intervention. The organization of the yard cannot therefore be seen as a discretionary prerogative of the involved firms, but it must fit into a far more complex and articulated framework, typical of any other design discipline. So, the goal is to give a possible solution to the approximation that afflicts the construction phase organization and management thanks to a performance approach applied to the construction site design. The volume is thus addressed to the decision makers of the ergo-technique design, accompanying them in a systematic way through the structure of the construction site design, structure that consists of steps that have to be consequential, subordinate or interrelated among them. In the first part of the work, the stages and the levels of the ergo-technique design are presented defining and illustrating the site systems areas and their properly design documents, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the decision makers. From a methodological point of view, the critical issues assessment is then introduced as a decision aid to the construction site design, thanks to the tool of the Criticality report. At the end of the first part, the so called Building Information Modeling (BIM) is described as a useful design method proposing some illustration of a series of significant examples. This method could be successfully applied to the construction site design both of a new construction and of a recovery process. Section II deals with the design of the technological-productive system, showing a number of typical logistic, plants and equipment and their performance parameters. In the third part of the book, thanks to the illustrations of many examples, the attention of the reader is directed to some typical civil/building works and site activities organization. This research deals with what have been defined as forms of the void1 concerning the urban and the landscape scale, which offer the possibility of observing and experimenting the mechanisms of connection between the architectural "objects". This approach comes from the need of considering architecture not only as an object in itself, but also in its effort of addressing the existing fabric as well as the wider territory. This means considering the relation between void and full, between figure and ground as one of the main objectives of the urban and architectural composition. Therefore this research tries to reflect upon the figures of the open space as a form of the void being built through the figure or ground relation (I am going to demonstrate how such relation in certain cases is not so univocal), with the architectural volumes, taking into account at first some paradigmatic examples at the urban and the landscape scale, belonging to the historical town and to the Modern. This in order to offer, afterwards, a contribution as to the possible figures of the open contemporary space, thus excluding, of course, the cases in which it is generated as a residual form of the architectural object. The forms of the contemporary void include both spatial forms resuming the theme of the urban enclosure, although it is evolving through different devices, and forms trying to achieve a dialectical compromise between the bounded void of the historical town and the continuous one of the Modern, reaching, in a few cases, a new dimension of the spatial structure that I have called "figural". Spazio ordinario della periferia urbana e dello sprawl, mero prodotto funzionale delle placche commerciali sovrascalari, logistiche e residenziali; spazio residuale la cui gestione, in assenza di una pianificazione realmente orientata a restituire significato all'interno dell'urbano, è delegata a forme di occupazione estemporanea; spazio dell'incontro, ma anche della contesa e del conflitto in cui il potere esercita forme di controllo attraverso regolamentazioni e circuiti di sorveglianza; spazio dell'occasione, dell'iniziativa, del valore sociale, luogo di nuovi legami sociali e culturali, di pratiche relazionali che generano un rinnovato rapporto tra città e natura. Spazio della rappresentazione e della rappresentatività, carico di significati simbolici racchiusi nelle pieghe della storia, nelle tracce di tessuti stratificati e di emergenze architettoniche che costruiscono urbanità. Un testo che, attraverso differenti approcci e contributi, vuole indagare la pluralità - di significati, di esperienze progettuali e culturali - insita nel termine spazio pubblico per esplicitarne la ricchezza ma anche la difficoltà di interpretazione nel contesto contemporaneo.
