Il volume costituisce il terzo prodotto appartenente alla serie TCM - "Transformation and Crisis in the Mediterranean: 'Identity' and Interculturality in the Levant and Phoenician West", nata dal progetto omonimo coordinato, in seno al CNR, da Giuseppe Garbati e Tatiana Pedrazzi. Il lavoro raccoglie 16 contributi, elaborati da altrettanti studiosi, dedicati per lo più alla cultura dei Fenici. In continuità con i due volumi precedenti (riservati al XII-VIII e all'VIII-V sec. a.C.), al centro del TCM III è collocato il periodo compreso tra il V e il II sec. a.C., in cui ebbero luogo processi di intensa trasformazione, tra i quali quel complesso fenomeno culturale che fu l'Ellenismo. Lo scopo della ricerca, dunque, è quello di analizzare le dinamiche di auto-percezione delle antiche comunità in oggetto in un'epoca così particolare e, con esse, i momenti di incontro di cui quelle comunità furono protagoniste. Focus dell'opera, inoltre, è l'esame dei concetti di "identità" e di "interculturalità", analizzati nella loro effettiva operatività sul piano dell'interpretazione storica.
