Battista Spagnoli. Alfonsus: L'"Alfonsus" di Battista Spagnoli, noto anche come Battista Mantovano, è un poema in sei libri inedito in tempi moderni, la cui composizione si colloca tra la fine del XV e l'avvio del XVI secolo. Protagonista è Alfonso, principe ereditario del trono di Castiglia, nato nel 1453 a Madrigal da Giovanni II, re di Castiglia, e Isabella di Portogallo. Il poema descrive il viaggio ultraterreno dell'anima di Alfonso il quale, morto a quasi quindici anni, fu liberato dal corpo e destinato a redimersi nel purgatorio prima di raggiungere il paradiso terrestre e il cielo. Il Mantovano rivolge la propria attenzione e capacità creativa a vantaggio dell'aspetto dottrinale del poema, pur non distogliendo mai lo sguardo dalla storia e superando l'astratta demarcazione tra i due generi, l'epica storica e quella sacra, normalmente individuata dagli studiosi della poesia latina umanistica. L'"Alfonsus" realizza infatti la fusione tra i due generi e risponde in un'unica struttura compositiva alle esigenze di entrambe le tipologie poetiche. The "Hamzah" of Baptista Mantuanus, also known as Battista Mantovano, is a poem in six books, unprecedented in modern times, the composition of which is between the 15th and the start of the 16th century. Protagonist is Alfonso, hereditary Prince of the throne of Castile, born in 1453 in Madrigal by John II, King of Castile and Isabel of Portugal. The poem describes the otherworldly journey of the soul of Alfonso, who died almost fifteen years, was freed from body and intended to redeem themselves in purgatory before reaching the paradise on Earth and heaven. The Mantovano turns its attention and creativity for the benefit of the doctrinal aspect of the poem, while not averting ever gaze from history and past the abstract demarcation between the two genres, the epic historical and sacred, normally identified by scholars of Latin humanistic poetry. The "Hamzah" achieves the fusion between the two genres and responds in a single composition structure to the needs of both types of poetry.
